Humboldt State University has announced the selection of seven Biological Sciences students who will participate in California Institute for Regenerative Medicine’s (CIRM) Scholars Program. They are Humberto Contreras, Sara Louise Downey, Spenser Falor-Ward, Elizabeth Gould, Timothy Laurent, Logan Linthicum, and Robin Martin.

Dr. Aaron A. Velasco, an expert in seismology, will discuss how massive earthquakes can trigger tremors in distant locations on Tuesday, Sept. 22, at 7 p.m. in Humboldt State University’s Kate Buchanan Room.

Humboldt State University Professor of Computer Science Guy-Alain Amoussou has taken a position with the National Science Foundation, Arlington, Va., to liaise with faculty from HSU and College of the Redwoods about NSF funding prospects for undergraduate education and research.

Humboldt State University’s Logging Sports Club racked up eight victories, four second places and seven third places in contests at the 2009 Association of Western Forestry Clubs Conclave, which was held for the first time in tandem with the Redwood Region Logging Conference, March 19-21, at Redwood Acres Fairgrounds. "When I came to Humboldt people kept saying, 'You'll like our fire table.' I was thinking, 'What the heck is the fire table?' says Professor Morgan Varner, a fire scientist at HSU. "So, when I came into the Wildland Fire Lab and they lowered the hood I thought, 'Oh, wow, this is perfect!'"
