Leaving the cynical city (and its cynical musicals) behind, two men from New York drift out of cell phone range into the Scottish highlands, where they discover an enchanted village that lives only for a day every 100 years, called Brigadoon. There they find new love and a different way to live. But can the magic last, and if it’s lost, can it be found again?

Humboldt State University will start groundwork Friday, Oct. 14 for the campus share of the 2011 fundraising drive of United Way of the Wine Country for the Humboldt/Del Norte region.

HSU Author Publishes Indian Language Encyclopedia

Area bookstores have taken delivery of "California Indian Languages" by Humboldt State University Anthropology Professor Victor Golla. The milestone volume is the first encyclopedic reference book of all indigenous languages known to have existed in California before 1850.

Faculty, Community Bring More than Jazz to HSU for Sixth Season

On Sept. 21, the silence in the Kate Buchannan Room on HSU's campus was burst by the powerful yet playful tenor saxophone of Donny McCaslin. He and his band, the Donny McCaslin Group, launched the Redwood Jazz Alliance’s sixth season, which runs through April 25, 2012.

HSU Outlines Food Donation Strategy to Curb Waste

The California Center for Rural Policy at Humboldt State University has issued a series of policy options to encourage food donations, pare considerable local waste and stem the region’s food insecurity.

President Hosts Promoted Faculty Reception Oct. 7

President Richmond will host a reception honoring promoted faculty on Friday, Oct. 7, 3-4 p.m., in Goodwin Forum, Nelson Hall East. The entire campus community is invited. Refreshments will be served and student musicians will entertain.

HSU Students Put Einstein Theory to Toughest Test Yet

A two-year, $117,000 National Science Foundation grant will enable Humboldt State University physics students to conduct the most rigorous test worldwide of Einstein’s famous theory of relativity in the campus’s Gravitational Research Laboratory.

Volunteer Opportunities Available Through YES

Fieldwork Scholarship Sends Anthropology Major on Belize Adventure

HSU Anthropology and Sociology major, Leslie Perkins, was awarded the Jane C. Waldbaum Archaeological Field School Scholarship. The scholarship is awarded to only seven students in the United States and Canada and includes $1,000 to pay for their first fieldwork experience.
