The environmental history collections at Humboldt State University Library will expand with the donation of a new trove of records amassed by the Environmental Protection Information Center (EPIC), the Arcata non-profit founded in 1977.

The HSU Natural History Museum invites community members to visit for Art Night at the Museum just before Arts! Arcata on Friday, Dec. 9, 4-6pm. This is a chance for children, parents, grandparents, HSU students, and accomplished artists alike to flex their creative muscles by drawing/painting rarely seen beautiful and bizarre museum specimens.

Fifth-graders at Morris Elementary School in McKinleyville will make a field trip Wednesday morning, Dec. 7, to meet with their semester-long pen pals: aspiring elementary school teachers at Humboldt State University who will give hands-on math presentations to their young protégés.

The Humboldt State University Police Department is seeking the public’s help in identifying the suspects in a strong arm robbery that took place on campus Dec. 2. Composite drawings of the three suspects are being posted in the area around Sunset Hall, where the crime occurred.  In addition, police are distributing the drawings to local media and posting them online.

E-Waste is the name given to computers, televisions, stereos, copiers, cell phones and other electronics nearing the end of their “lifecycles.” Many of these products can be reused, refurbished, or recycled.

The Humboldt State University Library offers an impressive collection of digital resources, including electronic versions of over 500 HSU master’s theses, nearly 50,000 electronic journals and 70,000 electronic books, or eBooks, for use by the campus community. Recently, though, the Library gained access to another 100,000 eBooks—and counting.

Trustees Approve Budget Seeking Restoration of $333 Million from State The CSU Board of Trustees this week adopted a budget for the 2012-13 fiscal year that requests state lawmakers provide an additional $333 million in funding. The trustees also approved an undergraduate tuition increase of $498 per year, effective fall 2012.

World-renowned ecologist and author Simon Levin will discuss collective animal behavior and the interplay of human welfare and sustainability in consecutive lectures Thursday, Dec. 8 at Humboldt State University. Both are open to the public.

_The following was provided by the CSU Chancellor's Office._ The California State University Board of Trustees today unanimously approved its 2012-2013 budget, which requests that the governor and legislature provide an additional $333 million in state funding for the upcoming fiscal year. The board also approved an increase in tuition of $498 a year that will go into effect for fall 2012. The vote was 9 to 6*.

Marijuana should be grown either outdoors or in greenhouses to prevent the use of vast amounts of electrical power and the resulting addition of carbon dioxide to the atmosphere, according to the Schatz Energy Research Center (SERC) at Humboldt State University.
