Campus Concussion Research Asks Subjects to Walk the Line

At HSU, new concussion research is asking people to take a page out of Johnny Cash’s songbook and “walk the line.” While Cash kept a close eye on his heart, students working with the North Coast Concussion Program at Humboldt State are keeping a close eye on the head, specifically head injuries.

Rangeland Resource Major Wins Soil Scholarship

For Rangeland Resource major Jasmine Westbrook, a love for the range has been with her since she was a child, raised on her parents Napa Valley sheep ranch. The recent recipient of the Paul J. Zinke Memorial Scholarship for students studying soils management, Westbrook is using the award to fund her senior project, which consists of comparing vitamin and mineral deficiencies in sheep to vitamin and mineral analysis in the vegetation and soil from pastures they graze in.

HSU Vets Launch 5K Run/Walk Fundraiser

Humboldt State University’s Student Veterans Association will inaugurate its annual Veterans Day 5K Run/Walk on Friday, Nov. 11 to raise funds for the university’s Office of Veterans Enrollment and Transition Services (VETS). Participants will depart from Redwood Bowl at 11 a.m.

HSU Author Publishes Indian Language Encyclopedia

Area bookstores have taken delivery of "California Indian Languages" by Humboldt State University Anthropology Professor Victor Golla. The milestone volume is the first encyclopedic reference book of all indigenous languages known to have existed in California before 1850.

The California Center for Rural Policy at Humboldt State University has issued a series of policy options to encourage food donations, pare considerable local waste and stem the region’s food insecurity.

President Richmond will host a reception honoring promoted faculty on Friday, Oct. 7, 3-4 p.m., in Goodwin Forum, Nelson Hall East. The entire campus community is invited. Refreshments will be served and student musicians will entertain.

HSU Students Put Einstein Theory to Toughest Test Yet

A two-year, $117,000 National Science Foundation grant will enable Humboldt State University physics students to conduct the most rigorous test worldwide of Einstein’s famous theory of relativity in the campus’s Gravitational Research Laboratory.
