Disability Awareness Film Series March 23-24

A two-part film and discussion series highlighting disability awareness will be held at Humboldt State University on Tuesday and Wednesday, March 23 – 24. The two films have both won awards from Superfest, the world's longest-running juried international disability film festival.

HSU Hosts Women’s Self-Defense Training

Humboldt State University and the University Police Department will host a free women’s self-defense class on Wednesday, March 24, 5-7:30 p.m., in the Agate Beach Room of the Jolly Giant Commons Mezzanine.

Humboldt State University Police are investigating a report by a female student who said her arm was grabbed briefly Sunday night by an unknown male as she walked alone behind the University Center loading dock area.

HSU Student Arrested by Arcata Police

The Arcata Police Department informed campus officials at mid-afternoon Friday, March 5, that it had arrested Timothy Ryan Dossey, a student at Humboldt State University.

Students Relight HSU’s Redwood Bowl

The Relight Redwood Bowl project, funded by a $75,000 grant from Humboldt Energy Independence Fund and carried out by the Green Campus Program, is now completed and operational. The project reduces the number of light poles on the track and football field from eight to four, and reduces the number of light bulbs used from 96 to 60.

Alternative Spring Break has Students Giving Back to Community

For the week of March 14, otherwise known as Spring Break, 13 student volunteers, 3 student directors and 1 faculty advisor will eschew the usual vacation stomping grounds and head, instead, for Sacramento, where they will feed and build houses for the homeless.

Natural History Museum to Finish Closure

Humboldt State University’s Natural History Museum, which has been open only to school groups since it closed to the public last August, will close entirely after the end of the current school year. School trips planned for this spring will not be affected.

Campus Reform Ideas Getting Reviewed

Humboldt State's Expanded University Executive Committee recently met about a proposed series of campus reform proposals, and has forwarded the proposals to campus governance groups. The groups - Academic Senate, Associated Students, Staff Council and the University Executive Committee - have been asked for feedback by March 9.

Student Uses Camera to Lend Haiti a Hand

When the magnitude 7.0 earthquake struck Haiti, HSU journalism student Travis Turner knew he couldn't wait for the media to bring him the story. He needed to grab his camera and see it for himself. Now his work is on display at Arcata’s Venatore Gallery through March 12.

KRFH Opens Doors for Student Broadcasters
