Humboldt State University is unveiling student-created interpretive signage for the new way-finding kiosks that dot the campus. The purpose is to acquaint students and visitors with the Redwood Coast's natural and cultural heritage and with how HSU's students are "Learning to Make a Difference" in the world around them.

The Marine Wildlife Care Facility on the Humboldt State University campus was activated Wednesday, November 22 to handle the care and stabilization of birds from Humboldt Bay that were oiled as a result of what official from the California Department of Fish and Game’s Office of Spill Prevention and Response (OSPR) is calling an oil spill.

The Humboldt State University School of Business, in connection with International Education Week, is hosting the internationally known writer and lecturer David C. Korten on Thursday, Nov. 16, from 2 to 4 p.m. in the Kate Buchanan Room, University Center.

Dr. Stephen Sillett, Professor and Kenneth L. Fisher Chair in Redwood Forest Ecology at Humboldt State University, recently measured and verified that Hyperion—a 379.1-foot tall redwood tree, is truly the world's tallest living tree. The Humboldt State University Campus Recycling Program and Housing Department partnered with the Eureka Rescue Mission and the North Coast Co-op to collect reusable items from residence hall students as they moved out last week, bringing in nearly six tons of reusable material.

The mission was called "Burrow Nesting Nocturnal Seabird." After careful, cooperative planning by the US Coast Guard, US Fish and Wildlife Service, the National Park Service, US Geological Survey, and Humboldt State University, this mission -- installing a breakthrough video-camera system for public and scientific viewing of the state's second largest colony of breeding seabirds, found on Castle Rock near Crescent City, California -- was accomplished on February 23.

On Wednesday, April 19, Humboldt County's Environmental Health Division recognized the waste reduction efforts of several local people and organizations, including both Humboldt State University President Rollin Richmond and the Campus Recycling Program's ROSE, by honoring them with Waste Reduction Awards.

Humboldt State's 2005 Scholar of the Year and economics department chairman, Steven Hackett, has just published the newest edition of his textbook, "Environmental and Natural Resources Economics."
