The HSU Symphonic Band performs the original Star Wars Suite, plus a world premiere by HSU composer Brian Post, Copland’s “Promise of Living” and a trombone piece featuring student Craig Hull, on Friday April 29 in Fulkerson Recital Hall.

The distinguished artist George Blake (Hupa-Yurok) will receive an honorary Doctorate of Humane Letters, to be conferred by the California State University and Humboldt State University. Blake was nominated by CSU Trustee Hugo N. Morales, who cited Blake’s role in the resurgence of Native California traditional cultural life since the 1970s.
Humboldt State’s Associated Students begins its online election on Tuesday, April 19. Students are asked to vote on executive level officials, college representatives, and student representatives to the University Center board.

For the April 2016 Constellation Series at the Morris Graves Museum, students and faculty of the HSU Composition Studio will be giving electro acoustic performances of original minimalist works as well as performing the classic minimalist composition, "In C" by Terry Riley. At times performers will be located in different parts of the museum while performing at the same time. Four of the pieces performed will be collaborative compositions written by everyone in the studio. Improvisation will be an important element of all of the pieces being given throughout the evening. The goal of each piece will be to spontaneously create a musical and electronic soundscape through the use of precomposed and improvised material.

That’s the beginning of “Dead Man’s Cell Phone,” the imaginative comedy and surprising love story by famed American playwright Sarah Ruhl, which opens at HSU on Friday April 22 for two weekends.

Today the California State University announced it has reached a tentative agreement with the California Faculty Association (CFA), resolving a year-long dispute over faculty salaries and averting planned strike activity next week by the CFA. Under the tentative agreement, which must be approved by the CFA Board of Directors, ratified by CFA members and approved by the CSU Board of Trustees, all faculty unit employees will receive 10.5 percent in general salary increases over a three-year period (fiscal years 2015-16, 2016-17 and 2017-18). If the tentative agreement is approved and ratified, faculty unit employees will receive a 5 percent general salary increase on June 30, 2016, a 2 percent general salary increase on July 1, 2016, and a 3.5 percent general salary increase on July 1, 2017. The agreement also includes a 2.65 percent service salary increase for all eligible faculty unit employees in fiscal year 2017-18.
