Humboldt State Hosts Kimchi Culture Festival

Kimchi-making demonstrations, traditional Korean music, dance, and a barbeque are all part of the Kimchi Culture Festival, scheduled for 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sept. 27 in the Kate Buchanan Room on the Humboldt State University campus.

Marine Sciences Faculty Receive NSF Research Grant

Three Humboldt State faculty members have received a $272,000 grant from the National Science Foundation to study the effects of low pH and low dissolved oxygen on marine organisms along the North Coast.

Humboldt Bay Landscape Painters

Humboldt State University's First Street Gallery presents "Humboldt Bay Landscape Painters: Paintings by Andrew Daniel, Mimi LaPlant, Kathy O’Leary and Stock Schlueter" Sept. 30 to November 2. The exhibit is part of a series addressing Humboldt Bay, the second largest enclosed bay in California.

Music Faculty Collaborate in Annual Welcome Concert

HSU Music faculty members perform in their annual Welcome Concert to celebrate the new school year 5 p.m. Saturday, September 6 in Fulkerson Recital Hall. The planned program includes jazz, percussion, original compositions and a tango ballet as well as pieces by Bach, Brahms and Dvorak and will be followed by a reception in the Music Lobby.

Annual Humboldt State Faculty and Staff Art Exhibit

Humboldt State University presents the annual Art Department Faculty and Staff Exhibition Sept. 11 through October 4 at the Reese Bullen Gallery on campus. An opening reception for the artists will be held Sept. 11 from 4-6 p.m. The event is free and open to the public.

A Negotiable Utopia: The Humboldt Bay Project

Humboldt State University First Street Gallery presents, "A Negotiable Utopia: The Humboldt Bay Project." The exhibition features six observational documentary videos and accompanying essays by interdisciplinary artist Cynthia Hooper and a monumental, to-scale, sculptural, Humboldt Bay model by ceramic artist Mary Mallahan. This multimedia exhibition explores the physical and cultural geography of Humboldt Bay—California’s second largest estuary. The exhibition will be on display starting September 30, running through November 2.

HSU Statement Regarding Arrest of Christopher Haynes

Humboldt State University police have been assisting the Department of Homeland Security and the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office with an investigation of Christopher Haynes, who was arrested today on charges related to child pornography.

Tentative Agreement Reached on Successor Contract for CSUEU-Represented Employees

_The following was provided by the CSU Chancellor's Office._ (August 27, 2014) – The California State University (CSU) and the California State University Employees Union (CSUEU) have reached a tentative agreement on a multi-year successor contract. The agreement, which covers 15,000 employees working in health care support, operations support, administrative support, and technical support on the 23 CSU campuses, will be in effect through June 30, 2017.

Blue Green Algae Detected in Local Waters

_The following was provided by the Humboldt County Department of Health and Human Services:_ Officials from the Humboldt County Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) report that toxins associated with blue-green algae have been detected in the Trinity River. Health advisory signs are being posted, and confirmation testing is currently under way.
