Students, Staff Can Enroll in ‘Obamacare’ until Mar. 31

Open enrollment for the Affordable Health Care Act (ACA), nicknamed Obamacare, runs through Mar. 31, and Humboldt State students and parents can learn about the new law from both California State University and other state and federal sources.

Eureka’s Clarke Museum Hosts Special HSU Historical Exhibit

More than 100 years have passed since Gov. Hiram Johnson signed the bill into law establishing Humboldt State Normal School. To mark the occasion of Humboldt State's centennial year, Eureka’s Clarke Museum is highlighting the university's history.

CSU Reaches Agreement with CSUEU and IUOE on 2013-14 Salary Negotiations

The California State University has reached agreement with the California State University Employees Union (CSUEU) and the International Union of Operating Engineers over the 2013-14 salary re-opener negotiations. CSUEU represented employees will receive a salary increase that is the greater of 1.34 percent of annual base salary or $40 per month. IUOE represented employees will receive a straight 1.34 percent increase. Salary increases will be retroactive to July 1, 2013 for all employees. CSUEU represents more than 15,000 CSU employees including administrative and technical support and healthcare and service workers. The IUOE represents skilled trade workers at the California Maritime Academy.

Romer Anchors HSU Business School Summit Oct. 7

Former White House economics advisor Christina Romer headlines the day-long Business Summit being hosted by Humboldt State University’s School of Business on Monday, Oct. 7. The summit also features a student panel on active learning and a company executive discussion of regional business strategies.

CNRS Showcases its Heritage with Bevy of Centennial Events

Humboldt State University’s College of Natural Resources and Sciences (CNRS), part of which had its 1930s genesis in a campus fish hatchery, is showcasing HSU’s 100th anniversary with a full slate of special science lectures and open houses in October.

Rollin Richmond, who has served as President at Humboldt State University for nearly 12 years, has decided to retire at the end of the 2013-14 academic year.

Fisheries Expert Weighs Bristol Bay/Salmon Controversy

Sockeye salmon expert Daniel Schindler, professor of aquatic and fishery sciences, University of Washington, will examine the ongoing environmental conflict pitting fish versus mineral exploration in Alaska’s Bristol Bay watershed in a lecture at Humboldt State University sponsored by the Department of Fisheries Biology.

Former White House economics advisor Christina Romer, co-architect of the Obama administration’s recovery from the 2008 recession, will analyze post-crisis monetary policy on Monday, Oct. 7, at 3:30 p.m. in Humboldt State University’s Van Duzer Theatre.
