HSU’s Fulkerson Hall Closed Temporarily for Repairs

Humboldt State University’s Fulkerson Recital Hall has been closed temporarily for the immediate and permanent repair of a cracked wooden truss beam that apparently succumbed to age and seismic activity. The closure includes the audiovisual booth in the Department of Music Building.

HSU Program Enriches Local Science Teachers

Lucia Boyer picked up the tiny jellyfish with tongs and dunked it into a bath of liquid nitrogen. With the cauldron still smoking and sizzling, she transferred the frozen organism into a freeze dryer, where low temperature and a vacuum would eventually transform the ice directly into gas.

HSU Hosts Earthquake Tsunami Room at County Fair

For the 14th consecutive year, Humboldt State University is partnering with the Redwood Coast Tsunami Work Group to host the Earthquake Tsunami Room at the Humboldt County Fair, Aug. 14-25, 11a.m. to 9 p.m. in Hindley Hall, the commercial building.

State Budget Marks Reinvestment in the CSU The state’s reinvestment in the CSU became official last week as Gov. Brown signed the 2013-14 budget, which includes $125.1 million in new funding and $125 million reinstated from last year’s budget cut. The proposed increase brings state funding levels to $2.3 billion for the CSU’s programs and operations.

Campus Volunteers Sought for CERT Training

Humboldt State’s CERT (Campus Emergency Response Team) Academy is scheduled Friday, July 26, through Sunday, July 28 and faculty, staff and students are encouraged to serve as CERT volunteers, who would assist first responders in the event of a major earthquake or comparable emergency.

HSU Hosts World Marimba Festival June 30-July 13

The international Zeltsman Marimba Festival comes to the Pacific Northwest for the first time June 30 - July 13, featuring eight evening concerts open to the public at Humboldt State University’s Native Forum and the Arcata Playhouse.
