Humboldt State University’s College of Natural Resources and Sciences (CNRS), part of which had its 1930s genesis in a campus fish hatchery, is showcasing HSU’s 100th anniversary with a full slate of special science lectures and open houses in October.

Rollin Richmond, who has served as President at Humboldt State University for nearly 12 years, has decided to retire at the end of the 2013-14 academic year.

Forest Invisible: Photographs by Young Suh-Press Release

A Moment in Time: Eight Photographers from California’s North Coast

Students Can Enroll in ‘Obamacare’ Oct. 1 – Mar. 31

Open enrollment for the Affordable Health Care Act (ACA), nicknamed Obamacare, runs Oct. 1 through Mar. 31, and students and parents can learn about the new law from Humboldt State’s Student Health Center as well as from federal sources.

Fisheries Expert Weighs Bristol Bay/Salmon Controversy

Sockeye salmon expert Daniel Schindler, professor of aquatic and fishery sciences, University of Washington, will examine the ongoing environmental conflict pitting fish versus mineral exploration in Alaska’s Bristol Bay watershed in a lecture at Humboldt State University sponsored by the Department of Fisheries Biology.

Michael Kauffmann Publishes New Book on Conifers

Michael Kauffmann ('12, M.S. Biological Sciences), adviser for Humboldt State’s Redwood Science Project, has published _Conifers of the Pacific Slope_, a contemporary field guide for identifying Pacific Slope conifers.

Obama Adviser Dissects Monetary Policy in HSU Lecture

Former White House economics advisor Christina Romer, co-architect of the Obama administration’s recovery from the 2008 recession, will analyze post-crisis monetary policy on Monday, Oct. 7, at 3:30 p.m. in Humboldt State University’s Van Duzer Theatre.

HSU Native Sashes Exhibit at Goudi’ni Gallery Sept. 26

Humboldt State University’s Goudi’ni Native American Arts Gallery welcomes you to join us Thursday, September 26th from 4:30 to 6:30 PM at an opening reception for our HSU Native Sashes exhibition. This exhibition displays graduation sashes worn by Native American alumni during their HSU Commencement ceremonies.

Humboldt Bay Brass Performs Centennial ‘Sound-off’ Sept. 27

The Humboldt Bay Brass Band, the brass ensemble led by Humboldt State Music Professor Gil Cline that employs British instrumentation, will perform in the guise of the “Humboldt Bay Bugle Mob” in the university’s Centennial Parade on Friday, Sept. 27, departing from the campus at 4:15 p.m. via Harpst Street to the Arcata Plaza. Fans last enjoyed the Bugle Mob in last spring’s Rhody Parade in Eureka.

HSU Kicks Off 20th Annual Day of Caring Sept. 21

Hundreds of Humboldt State University students and community volunteers are expected to join in HSU’s 20th Annual Day of Caring on Saturday, Sept. 21 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., a partnership of the university’s Service Learning and Academic Internships and United Way of the Wine Country.

Berkeley Prof Surveys New Math Standards in HSU Lecture

Award-winning Berkeley Mathematics Professor Alan Schoenfeld will deliver the 62nd Harry S. Kieval Lecture on new math teaching and learning methods on Thursday evening, Sept. 19, at 7:30 p.m. in Founders Hall, Room 118. The lecture is sponsored by Humboldt State University’s Department of Mathematics.
