Humboldt State University will introduce this week its first-ever Diversity Resource Guide, a comprehensive collection of campus and community resources available to HSU students.

For the fifth year running, HSU is rated among the top 15 percent of colleges, universities and trade schools nationally that provide comprehensive support to soldier students and their spouses.

The Humboldt Bay Brass Band, the brass ensemble led by Humboldt State Music Professor Gil Cline that employs British instrumentation, will perform in the guise of the “Humboldt Bay Bugle Mob” in the university’s Centennial Parade on Friday, Sept. 27, departing from the campus at 4:15 p.m. via Harpst Street to the Arcata Plaza. Hundreds of Humboldt State University students and community volunteers are expected to join in HSU’s 20th Annual Day of Caring on Saturday, Sept. 21 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., a partnership of the university’s Service Learning and Academic Internships and United Way of the Wine Country.

Award-winning Berkeley Mathematics Professor Alan Schoenfeld will deliver the 62nd Harry S. Kieval Lecture on new math teaching and learning methods on Thursday evening, Sept. 19, at 7:30 p.m. in Founders Hall, Room 118. The lecture is sponsored by Humboldt State University’s Department of Mathematics.

Join the Humboldt State community in celebrating HSU's 100th year with a throwback Centennial Homecoming Parade on Friday, Sept. 27 at 4:15 p.m.

After months of collaboration among various campus groups and departments, Humboldt State has been named a top school for sustainability by STARS (Sustainability Tracking, Assessment and Rating System), a nationwide program that measures the sustainability performance of colleges and universities across the nation.

Jacquelyn Bolman has received a 2013 Professional Mentor Award from the Society for Advancement of Hispanics/Chicanos and Native Americans in Science (SACNAS) for her work as director of Humboldt State University’s Indian Natural Resource Science and Engineering Program (INRSEP).

In celebration of Humboldt State University’s centennial year, a exhibition featuring the art of emeriti faculty who began teaching in Humboldt State’s Art Department between 1914 and 1966 will be on exhibit at HSU’s Reese Bullen Gallery. The exhibit will run from September 12 through October 5, 2013 with an opening reception on Thursday, September 12 from 4-6 p.m. The public is invited to attend this free event.
