The California State University has reached a tentative agreement on a successor contract with the California Faculty Association (CFA). The contract runs through June 30, 2014 and becomes effective upon ratification by CFA members and the CSU Board of Trustees.

With the state budget for 2012-13 now signed, the California State University Board of Trustees discussed budget options for the system at its regularly scheduled board meeting today. The final budget relies on the successful passage of the Governor's tax measure in November. University officials laid out the difficult budget choices if voters don't approve the measure and the CSU faces an additional $250 million mid-year "trigger" cut. Options include strategies to reduce payroll costs, a "triggered" mid-year tuition fee increase, enrollment reductions, and other ideas are all part of the contingencies being considered.
The City of Arcata Fire Department will conduct a test drill at Jolly Giant Commons and the College Creek Apartments at Humboldt State University on Wednesday, July 18, from 7-9 p.m. All adjoining roads are slated to remain open during the exercise.

California State University Board Chair Bob Linscheid today announced the appointment of seven trustee members to serve on the Special Committee for the Selection of the Chancellor. The Special Committee, chaired by Trustee Bill Hauck, will hold its first meeting on June 28 from 10 a.m. to noon at the Chancellor's Office in Long Beach to receive input from CSU stakeholders and the public. The committee will meet in closed session following the public forum to discuss additional issues related to the search.
Rose Sita Francia, an administrative, agriculture and nutrition specialist who was most recently an instructor at Mendocino College in Ukiah, has been named coordinator of Humboldt State University’s Early Assessment Program, succeeding Robert Sizoo.
Registration is now open for the 2012 Marine Sciences Summer Program. The two-session program is an opportunity for young children aged 6 to 12 years old to learn about the coastal environment through fun and exciting activities. The first session runs July 9 through 13 and the second session runs July 16 through 20, and participants may pick and choose the days they wish to attend. Each day runs from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., and participants meet at the Humboldt State Marine Lab at 570 Ewing Street, Trinidad California 95570. Cost is $10 per day or $40 for the whole week.
