HSU Bookstore Gets Makeover

The Humboldt State University bookstore is getting a facelift. Slated for a June 22 completion, the remodeling will include new flooring, upgraded display cases and an improved layout.

EPA Launches Stormwater Management Design Competition for Students

The EPA has launched a new design competition called the Campus RainWorks Challenge to encourage student teams on college and university campuses across the country to develop innovative approaches to stormwater management. The competition will help raise awareness of green design and planning approaches at colleges and universities, and train the next generation of landscape architects, planners and engineers in green infrastructure principles and design.

CSU Budget Committee to Talk Cost Savings at May 23 Meeting; HSU Invited to Attend Presentation

The California State University's System-wide Budget Advisory Committee will meet Wednesday, May 23, to discuss cost reduction and revenue strategies in the face of unprecedented budget cuts to the CSU system. The meeting will be broadcast live online and the Humboldt State community is invited to attend a special presentation of the meeting from 10:30 to noon in Founders Hall 111.

Ogden, Utah—Only minutes into the 79-mile road race, someone in the pack moved the wrong way and about half of the 98 riders in the Division II men’s field crashed to the ground. Nate Abel’s Cervelo fork cracked. His front wheel bent like a taco. Riders scrambled to get off the pavement. Their bike jerseys were torn and blood-stained. It was a mess. “I thought I was going to stop,” said Abel, whose left eye was visibly bruised and swollen. “I squeezed my breaks, but then uh-oh.”

Geography Students Win Statewide Research and Mapping Awards

Over 400 academic, government and private sector geographers gathered April 27 to 29 at UC Davis for the 66th Annual Meeting of the California Geographical Society. Included were faculty and students from 36 different colleges and universities.

HSU Honors Stem Cell Research Pioneer

Humboldt State University President Rollin C. Richmond will confer an honorary doctorate degree at Commencement May 12 on one of the world’s prime movers of regenerative medicine and stem cell research.

Senior Awarded $1K Small Business Scholarship

Humboldt State University business senior Melanie Barnett has been awarded a $1,000 scholarship by Business Matchmaking, a California non-profit that links small business suppliers with state and federal buyers. The gift scholarship, made under the auspices of HSU’s School of Business, recognizes Barnett as “an outstanding HSU business student interested in entrepreneurship.” It will help her finance her participation in a business studies program this summer in Switzerland.

HSU Celebrates 2,200 Grads at May 12 Commencement

Humboldt State University will host its 2012 Commencement ceremonies Saturday, May 12 in Redwood Bowl. An estimated 2,200 graduates from HSU’s three colleges are eligible to participate and President Rollin Richmond will preside.

From the Sublime to the Ridiculous with University Singers and Humboldt Chorale

The University Singers, directed by Harley Muilenburg, perform the “Ave Maria” of famed 16th century composer Tomas L. de Victoria, and the gospel song, “Lord I Know I Been Changed.” They turn to contemporary tunes including “Requiem for the Masses” by popular music composer Terry Kirkman, and “Song of Songs” by contemporary English composer Patrick Hawes.
