Soccer Teams to Host League Games, Others Travel

ARCATA — Everybody's in action, but four of the six Humboldt State fall sports will be going on the road to compete this week. Volleyball and football travel for league action, while the men's and women's cross country squads race their final non-postseason events. The men's and women's soccer teams share the home spotlight in Redwood Bowl this weekend.

Homecoming Features Familiar Foe Azusa Pacific

ARCATA — Homecoming week brings to town a familiar opponent, Azusa Pacific (1-4), for the 6 p.m. Saturday game. Humboldt State seeks its first victory (1-4) in front of Lumberjack fans in Redwood Bowl this season.

Home advantage favors Jacks this week

ARCATA — September comes to a frenzied end when Humboldt State hosts six home sports events this week. Home football, along with men's and women's soccer, are all slated in Redwood Bowl, while volleyball plays a pair of matches in Lumberjack Arena. Jacks Seek Postseason Success

This Week’s Games: One more shot at postseason prominence comes in the form of the NCAA Division II West Region Softball Championships. For the first time since 2004, the Lumberjacks get a chance to host the event, which begins Wednesday at 9 a.m. on the HSU Softball Field. Humboldt State has been the No. 1 seed the past three years, but on each occasion they have been unable to host the event because of a conflict with commencement activities on campus. This year’s event begins with No. 3 Cal State Monterey Bay facing No. 6 Western Oregon in the opener, followed by a 11:30 matchup between No. 2 Cal State Stanislaus and No. 7 Seattle University. At 2 p.m., No. 4 UC San Diego plays No. 5 Cal State Dominguez Hills, and the day finally concludes with the No. 1 Lumberjacks taking on No. 8 Cal State San Bernardino at 4:30 p.m. Action continues with four games Thursday and Friday, two on Saturday, and one, if necessary, on Sunday. On the line is a berth in the NCAA Division II National Championships, scheduled for May 15-19 in Houston, Texas.

Jacks move up in pack at CCAA Track & Field Championships

LOS ANGELES – With points coming from all directions, the Humboldt State men's and women's track and field teams continued their season of impressive progress, finishing fourth and fifth in the respective divisions at the California Collegiate Athletic Association Championships that concluded Saturday.

Jacks to host NCAA West Region tourney

ARCATA – With one tournament currently in progress, Humboldt State softball learned today that it will be hosting another next week when the NCAA announced that the West Region Division II Championships will be played in Arcata.

Softball: CCAA Tournament next task for Lumberjacks

This Week’s Games: Humboldt State softball will again host the California Collegiate Athletic Association Championship Tournament, schedule for Thursday through Saturday. The event begins with CSU Stanislaus and Cal State San Bernardino facing off at 1 p.m., followed by HSU taking on CSU Monterey Bay at 3:30 p.m. All games will be played on the HSU Softball Field.

Rowers prepare for WIRA Championships
