VANCOUVER, Wash. — Humboldt State's varsity four boat had a strong showing and its varsity eight pulled well enough to maintain its regional standing at the Northwest Collegiate Rowing Conference Invitational Regatta on Lake Vancouver Saturday.

ARCATA – In a repeat of Friday’s games, Humboldt State split a doubleheader with Cal State University San Bernardino, losing game one 5-4 and winning game two 7-1, Saturday, for a series split.

ARCATA — Following two years as an independent, Humboldt State football returns to the Great Northwest Athletic Conference as a full member, with eight league games on its 2008 schedule.

ARCATA — Free shuttle service from the Student Business Services parking lot to the Humboldt State Softball Field will be provided for the Lumberjacks' softball doubleheader Saturday.

TURLOCK – Humboldt State softball completed a clean sweep of nine games played this weekend by taking both games of a non-league doubleheader from Central Washington, 4-0 and 7-3, on Monday.

This Week’s Event: Lining up alongside most of the crews from throughout the region, the Lumberjacks travel to compete in the Northwest Collegiate Rowing Conference Invitational on Vancouver Lake, Vancouver, Wash. on Saturday. The seven members of the NCRC — HSU, Willamette University, University of Puget Sound, Lewis & Clark College, Pacific Lutheran University, Western Washington and Seattle Pacific — are all expected to attend, along with other invited programs. Last year’s attendees included UC San DIego, Gonzaga University, St. Mary’s and the University of California.

This Week’s Meet: Seeking the best possible competition that will lift them to improved marks, HSU’s track and field athletes head in opposite directions this week for a pair of prestigious meets. While the majority of Lumberjacks head north to compete at the Willamette Invitational in Salem, Ore., a small contingent of athletes will stay in state for the Stanford Invitational in Palo Alto. Both meets are two-day events, beginning Friday and ending on Saturday.

This Week’s Games: The Jacks resume California Collegiate Athletic Association play this weekend when they host Cal State San Bernardino for Friday and Saturday doubleheaders to begin their stretch of 12 games at home this month. Friday’s doubleheader starts at 1 p.m. and Saturday’s begins at 11 a.m.

ARCATA — Humboldt State senior Devin Peal learned Thursday that his own basketball season has been extended one game by his selection to participate in the NABC/NCAA Division II All-Star game, scheduled for Friday, March 28 in Springfield, Mass.

ARCATA — Former Western Washington University offensive coordinator Eric Tripp has joined the Humboldt State football staff in that same capacity, reuniting with HSU head coach, and former Vikings' head coach, Rob Smith.

This Week’s Games: The Lumberjacks are on their spring break road trip, with their first stop in San Bernardino, for a Tuesday 1:30 p.m. doubleheader against Cal State San Bernardino. To finish off their week of travel, HSU travels to Seaside, for a three-day doubleheader series against Cal State Monterey Bay, with noon starts on Thursday and Friday and an 11 a.m. start on Saturday.

ARCATA — Perhaps setting the tone for the postseason, Cal Poly Pomona outlasted Humboldt State, 73-70 in a tight battle to the wire in Tuesday's first round game of the California Collegiate Athletic Association Men's Basketball Championships.

ARCATA — Will Sheufelt drained a three-pointer to put Humboldt State back in front with 21 seconds remaining before icing the game with a pair of free throws to preserve the Jacks' 65-61 win over Cal State San Bernardino on Thursday, Feb. 28.

ARCATA — The long bus ride to Turlock and the relatively short ride home from Chico are this week’s travel plans for the Lumberjacks, who make their final journey of the regular season this week. Of course, the ride home will be even shorter if the Jacks can bring home a pair of victories. They’ll begin that quest against the CSU Stanislaus Warriors at 7:30 p.m. Friday, then take on the Chico State Wildcats at the same time Saturday.

Humboldt State is home to one of the most dominant softball programs in the country and at 9:30 on Saturday morning, February 23rd, you can catch them playing at home in Arcata — fresh off a string of victories on the road. The Lumberjacks will face off against Notre Dame de Namur in the Best Western Humboldt Bay Inn Tournament.

Arcata — Former Western Washington University head football coach Rob Smith has been selected as the new head football coach at Humboldt State University, Dr. Steven Butler, HSU Vice President for Student Affairs announced Wednesday.

Arcata — Three days before the Jacks kick off their 2008 season, Humboldt State was picked No. 6 in the National Fastpitch Coaches Association Division II Top 25 Poll, released Wednesday.

ARCATA — Another pivotal roadtrip looms ahead for the Jacks, who head to Southern California on Thursday for two CCAA games. On Friday, Humboldt State faces Cal Poly Pomona, and on Saturday the Lumberjacks battle Cal State San Bernardino. Both games are scheduled for a 7:30 p.m. tipoff.

First up is Friday’s 5:30 p.m. game against the Chico State Wildcats, the top end of a doubleheader that finishes with the men’s game. On Saturday, Cal State Stanislaus goes up against the Jacks in another twinbill opener set for 5:30 p.m.
