Omnisexual Studio Tour

The annual Teach-In event for Sexual Diversity, Psychology 437 takes place Tuesday, December 5th, 1pm in the Kate Buchanan Room. As part of the Multi-Cultural Queer Studies Minor, the teach-in seeks to challenge and educate the campus and larger communities regarding sexuality, orientation and gender.

Alumni Association Seeking Award Nominees

The Humboldt State University Alumni Association is seeking nominations for its 2007 Distinguished Alumni Awards. Distinguished alumni are individuals recognized as leaders in their fields, and outstanding contributors to their community, nation, or Humboldt State University. While membership in the Alumni Association is not required, nominees should have demonstrated continued interest in HSU and the Alumni Association, and should be able to accept the award in person.

Students Produce 12-Artist Exhibition

Humboldt State University First Street Gallery announces "A Holiday Invitational Exhibition" opening November 28 and continuing through December 22. Featured in the show will be artwork by twelve artists from California's North Coast, who work in diverse styles and mediums.

CSU Details Faculty Salary Offer

The California State University has provided a breakdown of proposed faculty salaries and health benefits. Under the framework, a full professor’s average salary would rise to $106,524 from the current $86,107.

HSU Logging Team Takes Top Honors

Noted Economist Assays Real Estate Bubbles

First Street: Angels Over Eureka

Humboldt State University First Street Gallery is set to open a new exhibit: "Angels," a one-woman show by local artist Gwen Thoele. Her oil paintings will be on display November 28 through December 22, 2006.

HSU Strives for Big Deposit in Food Bank

Humboldt State University's Service Learning Center is sponsoring the HSU Holiday Food Drive from now until Monday, December 4. This food drive supports the efforts of Food For People, the Humboldt County food bank. All securely packaged, non-expired food items collected here on campus will be distributed to 10,000 low-income children, families, people with disabilities, and seniors in Humboldt County.

Mtn. Lion Safely Captured on Campus

Humboldt State University students got a first-hand look at wildlife management techniques early this morning when a healthy young male mountain lion was cornered and captured under a small building near the University Library. HSU Wildlife Professor Dr. Rick Golightly was able to tranquilize the 80-pound animal with assistance from University PD, Arcata PD, Arcata Fire Department, and California Department of Fish and Game.

HSU Receives National Service Award

Humboldt State University has been named to the President's Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll, With Distinction for Hurricane Relief Service. Nationwide, more than 500 colleges applied for the President's Honor Roll in its inaugural year, and Humboldt State was one of 141 colleges and universities honored for distinguished community service and Hurricane Katrina Relief.

University Police officers spotted a mountain lion near the northern boundary of the HSU campus last night, after responding to a California Avenue resident's reported sighting in the neighborhood.

Autonomous Technology Forum Nov. 15

Tim Johnson, founder and executive advisor of the California Autonomous Technology Initiative, will speak at a forum on the subject at the Wharfinger Building on the waterfront in Eureka on Wednesday, Nov. 15th, at 5:30 p.m. Johson's economic development organization won the 2006 United States Economic Development Administration award for excellence in rural development. He also is executive director of the Yuba-Sutter Economic Development Corporation and will discuss how he has helped businesses to create thousands of new jobs related to autonomous technology, which includes robotics, information processing, and sensing technologies.

From Sublime to Ridiculous with Opera Workshop

From Sondheim's The Frogs to Mozart's The Magic Flute, and from Gilbert and Sullivan to a contemporary spoof on dreams of stardom, the HSU Opera Workshop student singers present an eclectic program of selections from musical theatre, opera, and operetta, Friday, November 3 and again on Sunday, November 5 in the Fulkerson Recital Hall on the HSU campus in Arcata. Both shows start at 8 p.m.

Alum Returns for Concert at HSU

Pianist and Eureka native Ryan MacEvoy McCullough will prepare for his debut performance at New York's Carnegie Hall with an HSU performance on Saturday, November 7 at Fulkerson Recital Hall.
