Dr. Tasha R. Howe, HSU Associate Professor of Psychology, has won a Fulbright Scholarship, January to June, 2008, in Cyprus to work at the Mediterranean Institute of Gender Studies in Nicosia, a non-profit organization. Dr. Howe will train social workers in violence prevention skills, using the American Psychological Association's ACT Against Violence curriculum, for which she is a nationally certified trainer.
Tammy Curtis, Associate Director of Human Resources at Humboldt State University, has been named Director of Human Resources, succeeding Mary C. Fischer, effective immediately. Ms. Curtis, an HSU alumna (71), has been associate director of the unit since 1998, where she administered human resources programs.

The California State University (CSU) today announced it has reached a tentative agreement with the California Faculty Association that provides all CSU faculty with base pay increases of 20.7 percent over a four-year period, as well as step increases for those eligible, making the package worth 24.87 percent.

Amber Gaffney, Humboldt State University alumna ('06), was awarded the Western Psychological Associations 2007 Christina Maslach-Philip Zimbardo Research Award in Social Psychology. Ms. Gaffney, a doctoral student in Social Psychology at the Claremont Graduate University, was recognized for research conducted in a Senior Honors Thesis under the direction of Dr. Gregg Gold (HSU Psychology).
Humboldt State University Alumnus Lyle Laverty ('65) has been nominated by President George W. Bush to be Assistant Secretary of the Interior for Fish and Wildlife and Parks. The nomination is subject to United States Senate confirmation. In that post, Mr. Laverty would oversee policy for the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and the National Park Service, with a combined annual budget of some $3.6 billion and a combined workforce of about 30,000 employees.
HSU Alum Timothy Baroni ('72, '74), an international expert in the field of mycology, has been appointed a Distinguished Professor, one rank above Full Professor, by the State University of New York (SUNY) College at Cortland. It is the highest academic rank in the SUNY.

This prestigious award recognizes one outstanding geography instructor from a field of kindergarten through university educators. Haynes joins an impressive list of past recipients including professors from the University of California.
April is the last full month of the University school year and the HSU Music Department has a crowded concert calendar, which will conclude the first weekend of May. Performances are based on the class work and experience HSU students gained throughout the academic year.
Humboldt State University First Street Gallery presents The Oaxaca-Humboldt Print Exchange Apr. 7 through May 20. Featured artists include Shinzaburo Takeda and his students from la Universidad Autonoma Benito Juarez de Oaxaca (UABJO), in Mexico and Professor Sarah Whorf and her students from Humboldt State University (HSU). This cultural exchange between the two universities and their communities features a wide variety of printmaking processes. The National Science Foundation (NSF) recently awarded Humboldt State nearly a half million dollars to finance a new scholarship program aimed at encouraging more students to enter the science and technology fields.
