Information Technology Services (ITS) is exploring options for improving HSU email and calendaring systems. A map created at Humboldt State by Cassandra Hansen, 2006 Geography alumna, has been selected for the 2007 National Geographic Award in Mapping by the Association of American Geographers. According to the head judge, Hansen's entry was part of the most eclectic and accomplished group of entries in the three years I have been a part of the review process. For the first time, we invited entries from Europe and the United States. The award comes with a $1200 cash prize.
As you may recall from earlier communications regarding the budget, there are four main causes of the persistent deficits at HSU. In its first year, the HSU Department of Government and Politics' Model United Nations program garnered three Meritorious Delegation awards at the 2007 Model United Nations of the Far West conference in San Francisco last weekend. Dr. Tasha R. Howe, HSU Associate Professor of Psychology, has won a Fulbright Scholarship, January to June, 2008, in Cyprus to work at the Mediterranean Institute of Gender Studies in Nicosia, a non-profit organization. Dr. Howe will train social workers in violence prevention skills, using the American Psychological Association's ACT Against Violence curriculum, for which she is a nationally certified trainer.
Tammy Curtis, Associate Director of Human Resources at Humboldt State University, has been named Director of Human Resources, succeeding Mary C. Fischer, effective immediately. Ms. Curtis, an HSU alumna (71), has been associate director of the unit since 1998, where she administered human resources programs.

The California State University (CSU) today announced it has reached a tentative agreement with the California Faculty Association that provides all CSU faculty with base pay increases of 20.7 percent over a four-year period, as well as step increases for those eligible, making the package worth 24.87 percent.
The perennially popular spring dance concert by HSU students and faculty opens this year on April 12 in the Van Duzer Theatre. Some 50 dancers will participate in a dozen original dance pieces collected under the title of "Suffusion."
