Arcata — At about 1:30 p.m., Tuesday, January 29, Humboldt State University faculty members noticed smoke coming from a locked custodial closet in Old Music Building 8A, a single story structure. Faculty members pulled the fire alarm and evacuated the building. There were no injuries and the University Police Department determined that there was no broad threat to the campus as a whole.
Arcata— Nine hundred fifty pounds of food were collected for HSU's Holiday Food Drive as students, faculty and staff did their part to help Food For People, Humboldt County's only food bank. The food will go toward providing sustenance for the nearly 10,000 Humboldt County residents who need assistance.

Arcata - The recommendations of the Governor’s Broadband Task Force to foster distance learning, Internet tutoring, off-campus educational partnerships and rural technology and jobs “are extremely important opportunities for the North Coast and its future,” Humboldt State University President Rollin Richmond said on the unveiling of the task force’s report January 17.
This Week’s Games: Following a road split, the Lumberjacks seek a home sweep this week when they face Chico State and Cal State Stanislaus in California Collegiate Athletic Association games. First up is Friday’s 5:30 p.m. game against the Chico State Wildcats, the top end of a doubleheader that finishes with the men’s game. On Saturday, Cal State Stanislaus goes up against the Jacks in another twinbill opener set for 5:30 p.m.
This Week’s Games: Familiar rivals Chico State and Cal State Stanislaus travel to Arcata this week for men’s basketball matchups with the Lumberjacks. On Friday, the Chico State Wildcats will visit for a 7:30 p.m. tipoff, and the Cal State Stanislaus Warriors will be in town for Saturday’s game at the same start time. Both games are the latter half of a doubleheader that begins with the women’s contests.
