The streams and creeks of coastal Humboldt County come alive every winter with migrating salmon, which struggle upstream to reach spawning grounds. Having survived predators and several years in the Pacific, many of these salmon will die without completing their journey. The culprit: antiquated road culverts that block their passage.

Full electrical power has been restored to the Humboldt State University campus following a brief outage Thursday morning, Feb. 21. All classes, offices and operations are functioning normally.

The Valentine’s Day test of Humboldt State University’s Emergency Alert System succeeded in transmitting 3,017 text messages to registered cell phone users, a dramatic increase from the 752 sent in the previous drill. Only 78 messages were returned as undeliverable.
