The Humboldt State University School of Business, in connection with International Education Week, is hosting the internationally known writer and lecturer David C. Korten on Thursday, Nov. 16, from 2 to 4 p.m. in the Kate Buchanan Room, University Center.

A record number of HSU students - 73 in all - made the trip to this year's California Forum for Diversity in Graduate Education hosted by Mills College.

Tim Johnson, founder and executive advisor of the California Autonomous Technology Initiative, will speak at a forum on the subject at the Wharfinger Building on the waterfront in Eureka on Wednesday, Nov. 15th, at 5:30 p.m. Johson's economic development organization won the 2006 United States Economic Development Administration award for excellence in rural development. He also is executive director of the Yuba-Sutter Economic Development Corporation and will discuss how he has helped businesses to create thousands of new jobs related to autonomous technology, which includes robotics, information processing, and sensing technologies.

At Humboldt State –perhaps it's something in the misty air -- students seem to simultaneously catch the bug for student leadership, civic-mindedness, and community outreach. Example: the Youth Educational Services House -- better known as the YES House -- tucked away in the northern corner of campus. The first annual HSU School of Business Golf Tournament will take place at the Baywood Golf and Country Club, in Arcata, Friday, September 22, 2006 with a "shotgun" tournament start at 1 p.m., followed by a silent auction and dinner at 6 p.m.
