Virtual Reality Helps Nurses See Different Perspectives, Build Compassion in Care

Grounded in the science of caring, Humboldt State University’s RN-BSN program prepares nurses to become community leaders as they face a changing healthcare landscape and the complex needs of the North Coast’s rural population. To expand on the program’s core curriculum, HSU is working with Embodied Labs, an immersive training platform, to add an element of virtual reality–or more aptly, someone else’s reality–to students’ education.

President Jackson Presents Polytechnic Vision to CSU Board of Trustees

On Tuesday, Nov. 9, President Jackson presented Humboldt State University's vision to become a polytechnic to the California State University Board of Trustees. The presentation was a formal part of the University's proposal to change HSU's name to California State Polytechnic University, Humboldt.

HSU School of Dance, Music and Theatre presents Ellipsis

The Department of Theatre, Film & Dance at Humboldt State University presents the Humboldt County premiere of Ellipsis, a physical theatre performance exploring the negative space. This is an original production devised by HSU students and directed by faculty member Dionna Ndlovu.

HSU Backs Veteran Entrepreneurs Across California through New Outreach Center

Veteran small business owners and aspiring entrepreneurs across California can access free business training and counseling thanks to Humboldt State University’s Veterans Business Outreach Center (NorCal VBOC). With a $258,000 award from the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA), the center will serve veterans in all 50 California counties north of Santa Barbara, Ventura, Los Angeles, and San Bernardino.

Humboldt Recognized as Equity Champion

Humboldt State University has been named a 2021 Equity Champion for Higher Education for exemplary work in enrolling Latinx Associate Degree for Transfer earners on a guaranteed pathway to a bachelor’s degree.

As part of the process for requesting a polytechnic designation for Humboldt State University, President Tom Jackson, Jr. will present a proposal to the California State University Board of Trustees for the University’s name to be formally changed to California State Polytechnic University, Humboldt.

A new generation of mariachis has arrived in Humboldt. Mariachi de Humboldt and the Humboldt State University Guitar Ensemble will perform Friday, Nov. 12 in Fulkerson Recital Hall.

Telling the Story Behind ‘Sugar Bear’ and Six Rivers National Forest

An 84-foot white fir harvested from Six Rivers National Forest will light up the U.S. Capitol this holiday season after making the cross-country trek from Northern California to Washington D.C. In preparation, Humboldt State University students have helped create interpretative and educational materials to accompany the tree on its journey east.

North Coast Otters Art Project Raises $300,000

North Coast Otters Public Arts Initiative, which featured 108 life-sized sculptures of otters painted by local artists, raised more than $300,000 in grants, sponsorships, and generous donations. Final proceeds will support otter research and student internships at Humboldt State University.
