Restoring Kelp in the Face of Climate Change

Researchers at UC Davis’ Coastal and Marine Sciences Institute, in collaboration with Humboldt State University and UC Santa Cruz, will research how ecological restoration of kelp forests might incorporate future impacts of climate change.

HSU Honors Latinx Students, Language, and Community

Strengthening ties between the local Latinx community and Latinx students at Humboldt State, the University is celebrating Latinx Heritage Month through October 15. Peace Corps Announces New Peace Corps Prep Program at Humboldt State University

The Peace Corps announced the launch of Peace Corps Prep, an undergraduate certificate program, today at Humboldt State University. Scheduled to launch this November, the program will combine targeted coursework with hands-on experience, building the competencies needed for students to become Peace Corps volunteers or other intercultural fieldworkers. HSU is one of 11 new university partnerships.

HSU Named a Green ‘Cool School’ Again

For the fourth year in a row, Humboldt State University has been named a “Cool School” by the Sierra Club magazine’s annual ranking of sustainability among North America’s greenest colleges and universities.

Renowned Stem Cell Research Program Secures $3.6 Million for Student Internships

Humboldt State University’s distinguished CIRM Bridges Program has once again been awarded with generous grant funding from the California Institute for Regenerative Medicine (CIRM). Led by Biology Professor Amy Sprowles, HSU’s CIRM Bridges is designed to support students from diverse backgrounds committed to improving human health through stem cell research and gene therapy.

Kelp is on the Way

Humboldt State University is expanding and diversifying its seaweed research farm in Humboldt Bay to include bull kelp. With the help of HSU students, researchers aim to inform future decisions about commercial aquaculture and conservation efforts.

‘Living in Community:’ New Learning Certificate Promotes Healthy Housing

To foster mutual understanding and improve the local housing climate, a free community course facilitated by Humboldt State University is now open to the public for enrollment. The product of years of advocacy between HSU and community partners, the course is designed to build relationships between the University, community, landlords, and tenants.

Wildlife Grad Student Honored with CSU Trustees’ Award

Throughout her childhood, Janelle Chojnacki turned to education as a steadying force to cope with adversity. Today, she is a graduate student in the Wildlife department at Humboldt State, learning the necessary skills to follow her dream of starting a nonprofit organization for wildlife research.
