On Monday, May 15, 2023, Cal Poly Humboldt President, Dr. Tom Jackson, Jr., announced that Dr. Nick Pettit will be the next Executive Director of Intercollegiate Athletics and Recreational Sports for the Lumberjacks.

Cal Poly Humboldt celebrated the graduation of more than 1,150 students who participated in three ceremonies in Redwood Bowl on Saturday.

New, interactive infrastructure and apparatuses designed to engage and educate the children of Trillium Charter School about science and sustainability premiered at the school in Arcata on Tuesday, May 9.

Cal Poly Humboldt officials along with leaders from the California State University, the community, and Associated Students led a groundbreaking event on May 12 to celebrate the largest student housing project in University history.

Growing under redwood canopies and prohibition, legacy cannabis cultivators cross bred cultivars (plants bred for desirable traits) to create strains such as Blue Dream and Sour Diesel. Popularized in the underground market, these varieties are now some of the best selling strains on the legal market today.

In a first for Cal Poly Humboldt and to make Commencement more accessible to students and their families, the University will host ceremonies in two locations—on campus and in Southern California. 

A Cal Poly Humboldt student took home a first-place award at the 37th Annual California State University Student Research Competition held at San Diego State.

Since 1964, Cal Poly Humboldt has honored outstanding faculty and in 1986, the University added the Scholar of the Year Award. Nominations are reviewed by the Faculty Awards Committee.

The awards honor President Alistair McCrone and recognize the accomplishments of Humboldt’s excellent newer faculty members and students.

The Executive Committee of the Cal Poly Humboldt Emeritus and Retired Faculty and Staff Association (Humboldt ERFSA)  is pleased to announce the winners of this year’s awards.

What began 10 years ago as an idea turned into ideaFest. Cal Poly Humboldt’s annual extravaganza showcases hundreds of research and creative projects from students, staff, and faculty over the past year.

As a person with autism spectrum disorder (ASD), Kinesiology graduate student Peggy Scarborough came across a grim statistic; accidental drownings accounted for 91% of deaths for kids 14 and younger with ASD between 2009-2011, according to the National Autism Association. Her findings inspired her to design an adapted aquatics program and compile data on its effectiveness for her Master’s thesis.

The Humboldt Journal of Social Relations (HJSR) celebrates 50 years of publication with the release of the 2023 issue “Becoming a Polytechnic.” Issue editors seeded multidisciplinary conversations that wrestle with pressing local and regional problems as the university embraces its new identity as the third polytechnic in the California State University system.

The seventh annual Sustainability Champion Awards program honors Cal Poly Humboldt employees who have deepened a culture of sustainability on campus, advanced  the integration of sustainability into academics or student life, or have reduced the University’s environmental footprint. 

Cal Poly Humboldt is on the road to zero waste, and for its efforts was recognized by the Post-Landfill Action Network (PLAN) with a bronze Zero Waste Certification.  

Cal Poly Humboldt’s annual Spring Preview for admitted students will take place on Saturday, April 22. The University anticipates hosting 800 admitted students and their families, nearly 2,000 total visitors for the event. The University’s Preview Plus program will bring around 160 students to campus by bus.

“I'm excited to learn more about and collaboratively build upon Cal Poly Humboldt's rich legacy of student success,” Dr. Mitchell says. He will lead student advocacy and support efforts and direct many services that promote inclusive student success.

This Spring Break, 11 Cal Poly Humboldt students made the trek from the rainy redwoods to sunny Cebu City, capital of the island of Cebu in the Philippines.

“I am thrilled to be joining the vibrant Cal Poly Humboldt community, particularly as it is taking on the inspiring work of reimagining itself," Dr. Cindy Bumgarner says. Her appointment is effective July 1.

This issue of Cal Poly Humboldt’s multilingual literary magazine seeks to break the taboo of sex with a collection of diverse voices celebrating sex, gender, and intimacy.

The 24-hour campaign on Wednesday, April 5 will bring together students, alumni, parents, friends, and the campus community to raise funds for students and campus programs.

The event is a cultural sharing of traditional California tribal dance and songs. It is acknowledgment of the sacred lands of the Wiyot people on which the campus is built. And, it honors the culture of California Native American tribes.

If you’ve walked around the physical sciences buildings at Cal Poly Humboldt, there’s a good chance you’ve seen the sperm whale skull that sits on the plaza in front of Science C.

Cal Poly Humboldt has broadened its investigation into reports of mistreatment of players as well as other misconduct within its intercollegiate men’s basketball program.
