Improve Your Tomorrow: A Brotherhood of Support on Campus

After a long drive north, a bus of more than 50 high school students from Sacramento and the Central Valley arrived in Humboldt last month. For many, it was their first time seeing tall redwood trees and the Pacific Ocean. All young men of color aspiring to someday become college graduates, the students visited Humboldt State University with Improve Your Tomorrow (IYT), a nonprofit organization designed to help traditionally underrepresented male students go to and graduate from college.

New Minor Offers Education in Sustainability for Every Major

Humboldt State University has launched a new minor that transcends disciplines and can complement any undergraduate major. Starting this Fall, the Sustainability minor will explore real-world problems from a variety of academic perspectives, incorporating curricula from across the natural and social sciences, as well as the humanities and the arts.

Library Reopens its Doors to Campus Community

As students return to campus this semester, they are welcomed back to the Library as an extensive seismic retrofit on the building is nearly complete. After almost two years of serious construction that closed the library, including the installation of a fire sprinkler and fire alarm system, the Library will fully reopen its doors on January 18 to students and HSU employees.

Anthony Morgan Resigns as University Police Chief

University Police Chief Anthony Morgan has accepted a position as Chief of Police at Bucknell University in Pennsylvania. The University thanks Chief Morgan for his dedicated service over the past year.

First Ever Fall Commencement

Humboldt State University is excited to announce that it will host the first-ever Fall Commencement ceremony to recognize the achievements of HSU’s Fall 2021 graduates. There will be a single ceremony for graduates in all Colleges on Friday, Dec. 17 at 3 p.m. in Lumberjack Arena.

Virtual Reality Helps Nurses See Different Perspectives, Build Compassion in Care

Grounded in the science of caring, Humboldt State University’s RN-BSN program prepares nurses to become community leaders as they face a changing healthcare landscape and the complex needs of the North Coast’s rural population. To expand on the program’s core curriculum, HSU is working with Embodied Labs, an immersive training platform, to add an element of virtual reality–or more aptly, someone else’s reality–to students’ education.

President Jackson Presents Polytechnic Vision to CSU Board of Trustees

On Tuesday, Nov. 9, President Jackson presented Humboldt State University's vision to become a polytechnic to the California State University Board of Trustees. The presentation was a formal part of the University's proposal to change HSU's name to California State Polytechnic University, Humboldt.

Helping Set the Gold Standard for Green Colleges

Once again, Humboldt State University has been named a “Green College” by The Princeton Review. The education services company included HSU in their 2022 edition of The Princeton Review Guide to Green Colleges, released this October.

HSU Backs Veteran Entrepreneurs Across California through New Outreach Center

Veteran small business owners and aspiring entrepreneurs across California can access free business training and counseling thanks to Humboldt State University’s Veterans Business Outreach Center (NorCal VBOC). With a $258,000 award from the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA), the center will serve veterans in all 50 California counties north of Santa Barbara, Ventura, Los Angeles, and San Bernardino.

Humboldt Recognized as Equity Champion

Humboldt State University has been named a 2021 Equity Champion for Higher Education for exemplary work in enrolling Latinx Associate Degree for Transfer earners on a guaranteed pathway to a bachelor’s degree.

Proposal to Change University’s Name at Board of Trustees Meeting

As part of the process for requesting a polytechnic designation for Humboldt State University, President Tom Jackson, Jr. will present a proposal to the California State University Board of Trustees for the University’s name to be formally changed to California State Polytechnic University, Humboldt.
