Humboldt State is gearing up for Spring semester with the launch of the Passport Parking App, a contactless mobile payment system.

After a long drive north, a bus of more than 50 high school students from Sacramento and the Central Valley arrived in Humboldt last month. For many, it was their first time seeing tall redwood trees and the Pacific Ocean. All young men of color aspiring to someday become college graduates, the students visited Humboldt State University with Improve Your Tomorrow (IYT), a nonprofit organization designed to help traditionally underrepresented male students go to and graduate from college.

Humboldt State University has launched a new minor that transcends disciplines and can complement any undergraduate major. Starting this Fall, the Sustainability minor will explore real-world problems from a variety of academic perspectives, incorporating curricula from across the natural and social sciences, as well as the humanities and the arts.

As students return to campus this semester, they are welcomed back to the Library as an extensive seismic retrofit on the building is nearly complete. After almost two years of serious construction that closed the library, including the installation of a fire sprinkler and fire alarm system, the Library will fully reopen its doors on January 18 to students and HSU employees.

Retiring employees are invited to join the HSU Emeritus and Retired Faculty and Staff Association (HSU-ERFSA).

University Police Chief Anthony Morgan has accepted a position as Chief of Police at Bucknell University in Pennsylvania. The University thanks Chief Morgan for his dedicated service over the past year.

Once again, the Humboldt State University community came together this holiday season to provide gifts for 84 local children in need.

Humboldt State University and the College of the Redwoods make a strong team for the North Coast. As two campuses, they are both collaborating to enhance the experience of CR students who transfer to HSU and, ultimately, to improve access to higher education on the North Coast.

Humboldt State University is excited to announce that it will host the first-ever Fall Commencement ceremony to recognize the achievements of HSU’s Fall 2021 graduates. There will be a single ceremony for graduates in all Colleges on Friday, Dec. 17 at 3 p.m. in Lumberjack Arena.

The Humboldt State University Campus Store will open its Eureka location on Friday, Dec. 10, serving the community, visitors, and students of all ages.

The Science D Building has been named Alistair McCrone Hall as a way of honoring the legacy of Humboldt State University’s fifth president, Dr. Alistair McCrone.

Distinguished author and scientist Robin Wall Kimmerer will join Humboldt State students, faculty, and administrators for a virtual discussion on how HSU can incorporate Traditional Ecological Knowledge (TEK) into a future polytechnic curriculum. Humboldt State University today reported that student voting on its campus increased 25% in last year’s presidential election, rising to 72% in 2020 from a rate of 47% in 2016.

The California State University (CSU) today announced the launch of the second phase of CSUCCESS (California State University Connectivity Contributing to Equity and Student Success), adding more campuses along with a new Wi-Fi connectivity package to its free technology distribution program designed to enhance student achievement and create more equitable opportunities.

In response to student requests and in order to increase trans+ and non-binary visibility at Humboldt State University, a new data dashboard will show the campus’ gender diversity.

Grounded in the science of caring, Humboldt State University’s RN-BSN program prepares nurses to become community leaders as they face a changing healthcare landscape and the complex needs of the North Coast’s rural population. Humboldt State University will soon update the name of its student union to the Gutswurrak Student Activities Center, adding the Wiyot word for “gathering place” to the facility’s name. The naming recognizes the importance of the space as well as HSU’s location on traditional Wiyot land.

On Tuesday, Nov. 9, President Jackson presented Humboldt State University's vision to become a polytechnic to the California State University Board of Trustees. The presentation was a formal part of the University's proposal to change HSU's name to California State Polytechnic University, Humboldt.

Once again, Humboldt State University has been named a “Green College” by The Princeton Review. The education services company included HSU in their 2022 edition of The Princeton Review Guide to Green Colleges, released this October.

Veteran small business owners and aspiring entrepreneurs across California can access free business training and counseling thanks to Humboldt State University’s Veterans Business Outreach Center (NorCal VBOC). With a $258,000 award from the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA), the center will serve veterans in all 50 California counties north of Santa Barbara, Ventura, Los Angeles, and San Bernardino.

Humboldt State University has been named a 2021 Equity Champion for Higher Education for exemplary work in enrolling Latinx Associate Degree for Transfer earners on a guaranteed pathway to a bachelor’s degree.

As part of the process for requesting a polytechnic designation for Humboldt State University, President Tom Jackson, Jr. will present a proposal to the California State University Board of Trustees for the University’s name to be formally changed to California State Polytechnic University, Humboldt.
